If you are new to chess or perhaps returning to it after an absence, Hertford Chess Club would like to welcome you!

We meet in the Hertford Club each Tuesday from 7.30 pm. Matches are usually played in the Chauncy Room on the first floor while social chess in the bar area on the ground floor. We have most standards of player so don't worry, you'll fit in somewhere. Our address is Lombard House, Bull Plain, Hertford SG14 1DT. Street parking in the town centre is not recommended. Gascoyne Way Car Park, SG14 1AB, is a 5 minute walk from the club. It charges up to 8 p.m. but you can display a free ticket from 7.30 p.m. onwards.

Here's what you can expect: You can play games against club players of your standard with no obligation to join in your first season with us. If it is competition you're after though, then you've come to the right club. Hertford Chess Club play in the county leagues and knockout competitions. These run from 1st October to the end of May. Hertford CC currently has at least four teams. To play competitively you will need to join both the the Hertford CC and the ECF (English Chess Federation). We'll explain when we meet you.
